Chic Looks from Around the World

by chic.com
What might be chic here in America, is not fashionable at all in other parts of the world. And the opposite is true,  what others consider chic... we might consider outrageous! Let’s take a look at some of the chic trends from around the world!

In Japan, Ganguro girls became a huge trend in fashion. These girls took tanning to a new extreme… tanning their fair skin daily. To increase the look of their tan, they would even apply foundation make for black skin.  Ganguro literally translates to ‘Black Face.’ Combined with their long straight  bleach blond hair, 6 inch platforms, miniskirts, light contacts and concealer for lipstick… this made for quite the look!

In China, small feet have always been seen as attractive. While this trend died out towards the end of the 20th century, many elderly women suffer with incredibly deformed feet from cramming and binding them into stunted growth.

In Scotland, the kilt will always be a fashion item held in high regard. Real kilts are incredibly pricey, and many people still sport the skirt today!

The Dirndl, or fitted bodice, blouse, and skirt combo Austria is so famous for has become the official uniform of Oktoberfest in Munich, as well as an iconic symbol for the country. Fun fact, if your bow is tied to the left side, you are a single lady!

Babouches are infamous in Morocco. Don’t expect to visit without taking a few home with you! Beautifully handmade in dozens of color combinations, these slippers are one of a kind!
